Unlike many similar programs, U of C does not require a teaching component. ![]() As the new writer-in-residence in the University of Calgary’s Distinguished Writers Program, the poet will be engaged in consultations with local writers about their manuscripts over the next year. Horlick will have one major advantage as she works on her debut novel: Time. So I’m excited to explore some themes in the Jewish tradition that aren’t trauma-related to give myself a little break after seven years working on a book that was a collection about the Holocaust.” Mostly because my last book focused really heavily on the Holocaust. “I’d like to play with that a little bit. “My book is going to explore what if someone tried to be possessed by the dybbuk on purpose, which is also a theme of the original play,” says Horlick.
